The Role of Academic Research in Student Learning

Any new big idea to formulate takes a lot of groundwork at the beginning. Great things do not just happen in void. A lot of effort, reasoning, evaluation, deduction, intellectual deliberation is associated in coming up with momentous discoveries, innovations and such.  This groundwork part is what is known as research in formal setting. Now why is research so important in academics? Research opens up exponential knowledge gaining potential for a student and also orients them for further research prospects. Research work exalts ones perspective and illuminates novel ideas in the subject field.  Apart from this there are certain valuable contributions of academic research.
Provides a preliminary training ground
University based research provides an education/training ground for entrants into the industrial workforce. Integrated research and education helps to in the flow of human resources from universities that contribute to an educated, trained industrial workforce. Research students often become major component of academic contribution to industrial performance.
Students as innovators
Academic research provides platform to student to take up subject topics and make their own analysis which leads to innovation. Often time innovative research ideas and even development germinates in an academic field. Thus academic research sustains and leverage innovation which in turn contributes towards a knowledge economy.
Teaches research skill
How to conduct a research and conduct a study is taught to the student in a very detailed way. This in turn helps instilling in students an analytic mind. Skills such as critical reasoning, objective observation and statistical measurement to reach conclusion are all taught in an academic settings. Students as such are pre -moulded to research techniques and carry out their studies in future with greater specificity.
Recognition for work
Research activities at universities are often making genuine discoveries and receiving recognition for their work. Large salaries, prizes, publications in distinguished journals or at prestigious presses, participation in international conferences or workshops are happening. Good research works carry a lot of prestige and is held in high regard. The students, professors and university alike stand to gain so much from it.
Creation of an Intellectual Environment
Research creates an environment of intellectual inquiry. This aids in learning and knowledge gaining. Students taking part in research programs are oriented towards a discourse that encourages intellectual inquiry.

Harnessing science and technology to contribute to human and social well-being requires a strong push to advance focused scientific research. Research can shed light on issues we didn’t even know existed and help in discovering of advanced scientific, technical and philosophical testaments. Thus understanding the importance of research it is essential to engage in studies that discovers, elucidates and evaluates new knowledge, ideas, and the technologies essential in driving the future of society and humanity.
